HOW DID YOU GET INTO RADIO?
Well I got into radio on a bet with my cousin Shout Out to Cousin Karl (who still owes me $50.00)! I was in acting school wondering if all I could look forward to was waitress jobs because of course that what actors and actresses did while waiting for that big break! When one weekend my cousin and I went to a community festival and I saw the radio station that I would later work at out doing a live broadcast. I stood there for hours watching them. I told my cousin, “hey that’s what I’m going to do” and he said “Yah, right, I’ll bet you $50.00 that you don’t”! (He knew my parents would go nuts if I changed my major one more time) but of course me being the person I was, not only did I change major’s I switched the college I was attending!

WHO WERE SOME OF MY EARLIER INFLUENCES IN RADIO?
You know when I was growing up in Seattle; the Disc Jockey’s that you heard on the air were more like family members. I remember Jocks like Nasty Ness from the Sir Mix-A lot camp, as well as the Lee Bailey’s and Tom Joyner’s of the world. My association was more with the music than it was with the Disc Jockey’s at the time.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN RADIO?
15 years in one form or another.

WHO DO YOU MOST ADMIRE?
My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

WHAT OR WHO ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?

The fact that I have to opportunity to effect peoples lives in a positive way on a daily basis! There’s no waiting not build up to at 9am “Here’s Bailey”! And from 9am-2pm everyday that’s my play time! And I am in my friend zone!

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GO INTO THE RADIO BUSINESS?
I didn’t decide, God decided for me! Everything just fell into place once I decided to go to school for radio, and my career path has continued to this day!

I have many favorite movies here are a few – Lady Sings the Blues (classic) Boomerang, Princess Diaries, and The Joy Luck Club!

WHERE HAVE YOU WORKED IN THE PAST BESIDES WKKV/V100?
I have worked at a host of stations in Seattle, San Diego, and Fresno California!

WHAT MAKE’S WKKV/V100 UNIQUE?
The listeners of WKKV show their love in a major way that’s what’s so unique! You just don’t get the type of love V100 gets in Milwaukee in other markets!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNG PEOPLE WHO WANT TO BECOME RADIO PERSONALITIES?
Follow your interest it’s not an easy way to make a living though it may seem so. And remember, you have to pay your dues, learn how to swallow your pride and work with people, don’t quit and most of all remember every job has things about it that you will not like!

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE HOBBIES?
Good question! I’ll let you know when I figure one out!

WHAT KIND OF CAR DO YOU HAVE?
Oh and who thought of this question??? Ha-ha in my adult life I’ve had: a Ford Escort, a Nissan Altima, and a Honda Accord I currently drive an “HC” – a Hood Cavalier ’96!!!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF CAR?
My philosophy on cars is it’s a means to get you from point a to point b (right now ha ha!).

IF I COULD SPEND A DAY WITH ONE PERSON, DEAD OR ALIVE WHO IT BE AND WHY?
I’d spend the day with my two parents! Just to rest and talk and ask a few more questions about life.

SOBE LIFE TIP OF THE DAY: ITS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU HAVE SEVEN TO NINE HOURS OF SLEEP PER NIGHT. RESEARCHERS FOUND THAT THE FURTHER AWAY ONE IS FROM GETTING THE RECOMMENDING HOURS OF SLEEP, THE HIGHER THEIR RISK OF OBESITY.

Minister Melvin Hood

Sundays 7:30am - 12pm

Minister Melvin L. Hood is a native of Chicago, Illinois. Equipped with God-given gifts and a special anointing. He has encouraged the hearts of many and compelled the lost to Jesus. As a young boy, Melvin had a calling to the ministry that started as a musician playing drums back in Chicago. His interest grew to include sound technology, and soon expanded to communication, production, and promotion.

After showing an interest in radio Rev. Johnny Jackson gave Minister Hood his first break on WAWA. This opened the door for other opportunities: he worked with Eugene Matthews on WNOV and brokeraged time on WYLO for his first gospel radio production "Inspirations". Also well known for Gospel Skating, he later went on to produce and promote various national artists like Rev. Timothy Wright and Bebe & Cece Winans in concert.

The Lord directed Minister Hood to radio station WMCS. With a proposal in his hand, a concept and the love of the lord in his heart, Melvin Hood pursued his dream to bring to Milwaukee -- "Music With A Message": thus the birth of Love & Devotion.

Through the years as the format has changed, God has continued to manifest Himself through this ministry. Currently Melvin continues to build his radio ministry through the venue of V100 - 100.7 FM. Every Sunday from 7:30 AM - Noon, thousands of listeners tune in, here they have their spirits uplifted, their souls renewed, and their hurts healed. As a result Love & Devotion has become the highest rated Gospel program in the city of Milwaukee.

Melvin's personal testimony of spreading music that makes a statement: and finding a personal relationship with Jesus Christ serves as a catalyst to change the lives of many by spreading the good news of the Gospel.

As God so directs, Melvin will continue to minister through song, pumping gospel music and uplifting spirits everywhere.
