At least 74 people were killed yesterday and more than 1,000 injured after soccer fans clashed following a match in Port Said, Egypt. Fans and politicians today are blaming the army for failing to prevent -- or even causing -- the tragedy, the deadliest incident since President Hosni Mubarak was ousted last year.

The riot occurred after fans invaded the field following the game, although local favorite al-Masry beat Cairo's visiting Al Ahli. Most of the deaths occurred as fans were trampled by panicked fellow fans or fell or were pushed from the stadium's upper decks.

Some blamed those who are still in power from the old regime. Albadry Farghali, a Port Said parliament member, said, "The security forces did this or allowed it to happen. The men of Mubarak are still ruling. The head of the regime has fallen but all his men are still in their positions."
