Minister Melvin L. Hood is a native of Chicago, Illinois. Equipped with God-given gifts and a special anointing. He has encouraged the hearts of many and compelled the lost to Jesus through the minister of radio. While living in Chicago Minister Hood was motivated and inspired by Rev. Milton Bronson's gospel radio show “Gospel Sound” in the 70s.
The persuit of Minister Melvin Hood vision began in 1980 when the late Rev. Johnny Jackson gave him his first break on WAWA. Since that time 31 years later, the Lord has directed Minister Hood to work for many of Milwaukee radio stations to produce and host his first gospel radio show “Inspirations” on WNOV and WYLO. With a proposal in his hand, a concept and the love of the lord in his heart, Melvin Hood pursued his dream to bring to Milwaukee "Music With A Message" thus the birth of Love & Devotion on 1290-WMCS. Later, Program Director Nate Bell “Nate The Great” heard Min. Hood's gospel show while traveling in his car, Nate wanted the show on his station which open the door for Min. Hood to be heard on FM Radio and to become Gospel Music Director at WKKV-V100.7.
Currently Melvin continues to build his radio ministry through the venue of V100.7 FM where thousands of listeners tune in to they have their spirits uplifted and their souls renewed. As a result Love & Devotion has become the highest rated Gospel program in the city of Milwaukee. Throughout the years working with various radio stations Minister Hood has been able to raise money to help establisments like the American Cancer Society. In 1990 Minister Melvin Hood Radio Anniversary featured two Fred Hammond concerts where the proceeds went towards the building of the new DLH Academy School, A fund raiser for Andrew Douglas Academy School featuring Byron Cage, Natalie Wilson &The SOP Chorale, three Feed The Children campaigns as well as other Holiday Food drives in the Milwaukee area.
Some of Minister Hood's awards and achievements includes a Letter of Achievement in Gospel Music from Milwaukee's Mayor Henry W. Meyer in 1985, 2 outstanding CYD Image Excellence Awards for the year 1989 and 2006 for Community Service, a plaque in 1995 in appreciation for the Burger King & Milwaukee/Sentinel Gospel Choir Competition, a plaque for Outstanding Partnering with Andrew S. Douglas Academy in 2004 and a 2009 Stellar Awards nomination for WKKV Radio Station of The Year Large Market finalists just to name a few.
Minister hood has been also blessed to grace the stage and minister with Bebe & Cece Winans Commissioned, Rev. Timothy Wright, Vickie Winans, Fred Hammond & RFC, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Ricky Dillard & New G, , Mary Mary, Tye Tribbett, J. Moss, Smokie Norful, Donnie McClurkin and many others.
Minister Melvin L. Hood personal testimony has helped listeners to find a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and has served as a catalyst to changing the lives of many by spreading the good news of gospel music through radio by the leading of Jesus Christ.
