The trial of George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch captain who is accused of murdering unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, opened on Monday.
Martin's parents were in the court room and wept as the details surrounding their son's death were recounted in court. Zimmerman's parents were booted from the proceedings, since they're on a list of potential witnesses and may testify at the trial.
Prosecutor John Guy got things off to a jarring start by repeating the words Zimmerman allegedly said as he followed Trayvon Martin. "F**king punks. These a**holes always get away."
Zimmerman's attorney Don West may have gotten off his defense off to a rocky start by using a knock-knock joke to describe the jury selection process as part of his opening statement.
West said, OC:…the jury. :10 [Courtesy of 24/7 News]
"Knock knock, who's there? George Zimmerman? George Zimmerman who? All right, good, you're on the jury."
